Project:

A client reached out to All About Arb regarding three false acacia trees that were dropping limbs, posing potential safety risks to nearby structures and the public. The trees were subject to a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), requiring consent from City of Doncaster Council for any work to be carried out. All About Arb was tasked with inspecting the trees, securing the necessary permissions, and removing them safely.

Challenges:

The trees were protected under a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), which meant that permission from City of Doncaster Council had to be obtained before any work could be carried out. Additionally, the trees were situated near several hazards, including a greenhouse, a shed, a public footpath, fences, and a public park, making the job more complex. Two of the trees were in such poor condition that they needed to be removed entirely, while the third tree, being part of the same group, posed a risk of crosswinds and instability if left standing after the removal of the other two.

Actions:

A thorough inspection of all three trees was carried out to assess their condition and identify any potential risks. Following this, all necessary consent was applied for and successfully obtained from CDC, ensuring full compliance with TPO regulations. To safely remove the trees, we mobilised a tracked spider MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform), as the trees’ poor condition and their proximity to hazards required careful handling. The trees were then felled to ground level using precise rigging and dismantling techniques to prevent damage to surrounding structures, such as the greenhouse, shed, footpath, fences, and public park. In the case of the third tree, we decided to remove it as well. Despite still standing, it was in poor shape and would have been vulnerable to instability and wind damage once the other two trees were removed.

Results:

All three false acacia trees were successfully removed without causing any damage to nearby structures or disrupting the public. The risk of falling limbs and other potential hazards to the surrounding area, including the public park and footpath, was fully eliminated. The client was provided with a detailed report outlining the work completed, along with recommendations for future tree care and risk management, ensuring the long-term safety of the site. Finally, the site was cleared of all green waste, and the area was restored to its original condition.
